There’s nothing like a steamy hot sandwich to warm up a cool, breezy daysail. This classic Hot Ham and Cheese Sandwich is so easy to make it often gets overlooked. Mass-produced, you can make as many as your galley oven will fit.

Hot Ham & Cheese Sandwiches for 6

6 Kaiser Rolls, split in half
1 1/2 lbs sliced deli ham
1 lb sliced Alpine Lace Swiss
Mayonnaise
Fisher’s Maryland Crab House Mustard (or mustard of your choice)
Sliced Vidalia Onions (optional)

making ham and cheese

Heat your galley oven to 350º. Line a baking sheet with foil. Open up your kaiser rolls. Slather mayo on one side, mustard on the other. Layer on the ham and cheese. Throw on some vidalia onions if you’d like. It couldn’t be easier!

making ham & cheese sandwichesIf you can get your hands on Fisher’s Crab House Mustard (not easy to find unless you’re shopping at a Graul’s in Maryland. But I think you can get it here on Etsy.) it’s well worth it. It gives these ham & cheese sandwiches a unique flavor that you’ll never find elsewhere.

Place all of the sandwiches in the foil lined baking sheet.

  1. Sailing with the Naval Academy’s OSTS program tomorrow. Sure to be a long cold day. Was told to bring a sandwich and bottled water…Wish GalleyPirates were part of the team! A hot lunch would go a long long way.

    • Wow! Good luck with that, Captain! Annapolis is relaxing their food truck regulations….maybe some day Galley Pirates can supply your OSTS team! My guess is their fleet’s galleys are sparse at best!
